Disorder Databases

  • NYC Crime Map
    • This database allows users to map incidents of robbery, assault, etc., that resulted in a police report. Individual incidents can be mapped by location, as well as the number of incidents at the precinct level. The default timeframe is the preceding month, but this timeframe can be expanded to the preceding two calendar years.
  • 311 Call Database
    • This database shows all the complaints made to 311 on a wide range of topics, including physical disorder (e.g. litter, graffiti) and social disorder (unauthorized street vending, squeegeeing, public drinking, etc.)
  • Social Explorer
    • This database does not relate to disorder directly – it allows user to map census data and examine demographics, wealth, income, etc. For the purposes of your assignment, it might help you to explore the social context around the block you are studying.
