Who We Are- Brooke Elliott

Hi, I’m Brooke! I’m from Long Island and have lived there my whole life. I’ve always loved the city, whether it be for a trip with friends or family, and living here has already been an amazing experience. I’ve been able to explore all around the city, from restaurants to art galleries to thrift stores, and I’ve taken trips to Brooklyn, Queens, Governors Island, and more. Being able to experience so many new things with my friends has been my favorite aspect of college so far. I can’t wait for this class to expose me to more of the city, and I’m so interested in all of the culture, food, and architecture I have yet to see.

Last semester, my favorite part of my Macaulay seminar was the field trips we took, and I’m anticipating that to be my favorite part of this class as well. My favorite trips included going to Governors Island (even though the day we went was pouring rain and freezing cold) and our trip to the Whitney Museum of Art. I loved that we were able to dive into the complexities of art in the city, and how different people from different walks of life can all represent one place so distinctly– and yet in such different ways. I feel that this class includes and builds on that same idea, except now we are investigating those different groups of people instead of studying their relationship to the art world.

I’m including a picture that I took from the observational deck at the Whitney Art Museum. Whenever I see the view of the buildings, I always reflect on how lucky I am to be here and how beautiful NYC is. So many amazing people live here, and the cohabitation is not only what makes it fascinating, but what makes it home.
