Hey, I’m Avi! I’m Bukharian Jewish and I’m from Rego Park, but my parents are from the USSR (Samarkand) and my ancestry dates back to Central Asia since the 6th century BC because of the Babylonian Exile. I speak 4 languages (English, Russian, Hebrew, and Spanish), though my Russian is shaky. In addition to loving the humanities (specifically theology, philosophy, classics, and literature), I’m a statistics and economics double major, and I’m really excited to learn how statistics intersects with sociology.
As for NYC, I’m excited to explore other cultural communities and learn more about the city I’ve grown up in. Even though I’ve been here all my life, there’s still so many neighborhoods, areas, and stories I know nothing about, and I think that’s why NYC is so remarkable.
I’ve attached a picture of the lights next to the water because I think it encapsulates how beautiful the city can be. I can’t wait to embark on this journey with you all!
