Hello! My name is Selina Zheng. I grew up in Staten Island, the forgotten borough of New York. Despite its obscurity to most tourists and New Yorkers alike, there are hidden gems that can only be found on Staten Island. The Snug Harbor Chinese Scholar Garden is a replica of China’s Suzhou Scholar Gardens. In this hidden gem, there are parts directly imported from China, maintaining its authenticity. This garden is among only 2 located in the United States, yet it remains obscure. In this course, I am excited to explore New York City and find other hidden gems, like Snug Harbor’s Chinese Scholar Garden, dispersed among the five boroughs.
