Hi! My name is Sameer Auluck and I was born and raised in the South Shore of Staten Island. I’ve always been interested in learning the history of NYC and how immigration has shaped the culture and diversity of the city. I wanted to learn more about my hometown, as well as the horrible transit system that has been cutting off Staten Island from the rest of the boroughs. In this course, I am excited about learning the history of other NYC boroughs and explore their forgotten treasures.
The Arts in NYC seminar was a very enjoyable class because I was able to experience cultures and traditions that I have never seen before. I’m excited for more new experiences this semester, especially visiting new neighborhoods and areas of NYC. I attached an image of the WW2 statue near my house. I chose it because it represents a part of history that my hometown was a part of during World War 2, and it commemorates the soldiers in Staten Island that fought in the war.
